Mindful School – Dixons Academy

On the 1st September for the new academic year Dixon’s Academy in Bradford invited us to introduce Mindfulness and Mediation techniques to the new Year 7.  Also we shared methods for overcoming exam stress and increasing focus with Year 11.

Here is what the deputy head, Steve Tighe thought of the visit:

‘I have been given some very positive feedback from the staff and students about your mindfulness sessions at Dixons. The year 7 students were very engaged and the tutor team and HOY are attempting to use some of the techniques with their classes. I watched the H.O.Y do the counting exercise with the whole year group this week.

They have certainly made a calm start to the year which may or may not be linked.

Staff were impressed with the way year 11 engaged with you and were open minded.

Staff enjoyed both the theory and practice of their session and have commented that they think it would have merit for all of the staff.’

Year 7 had  a general introduction to mindfulness techniques and how we can use them to reduce stress, increase focus and develop inner calm.

Year 11 session would give a little bit more background to Mindfulness and how we can use practical techniques to increase focus and reduce stress around exam time.
